Agency appointment

Your first Agentur für Arbeit appointment: what to prepare

A calm preparation list for discussing your work history, target roles, availability, and support needs with a Vermittlungsfachkraft.

Person organising official papers and writing notes

Start with dates and facts

Write down your registration date, the end date of your last employment, recent applications, and any appointments or deadlines already received. Keep the list separate from original documents so you can use it as a speaking prompt.

Describe a direction, not every possibility

A Vermittlungsfachkraft can respond more concretely when you name one or two plausible role families, a travel radius, workable hours, and the main barrier you face. “Anything” sounds flexible but gives neither of you a useful starting point.

Questions worth taking

  • Which target occupation is currently recorded for me?
  • What application activity should I document, and in what form?
  • Which local vacancies or labour-market information support this direction?
  • If training seems necessary, what evidence would be considered?
  • When is our next review, and what should I complete before then?

Ask for clarification when a term or expectation is unclear. After the appointment, note what was agreed while the conversation is still fresh.

Keep advice in proportion

An agency appointment deals with benefit and employment-service responsibilities. It is not designed to resolve every confidence, identity, or career-choice question in one meeting. Prepare the decisions relevant to that appointment and take broader career work elsewhere when needed.
